My Background and Approach
I specialize in relationships. All kinds. I can help you connect and feel heard. My doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) and my Masters are both in Marriage and Family Therapy. My post-doctoral training is in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). I also have a BA is in Deaf Studies with an emphasis in the Arts & Education. I have worked with kids of LGBTQ parents for over 30 years. I am a trained improviser, having completed the conservatory at Second City. Other than my freshman year of college at UCSC where I took my first Humanistic Psych class in a redwood forest, I lived in CA my whole life until this Spring when I moved to the Oregon Coast. I look at my clients holistically. We will work collaboratively to help you feel like your best self. You are the expert on yourself, but sometimes you need someone with a little perspective to help see and work through the obstacles keeping you from being joyful. I can provide that perspective in a positive and loving way.
Why I am a Good Fit for You
I grew up with a straight mom and a gay dad. I co-founded COLAGE (look it up) in 1990 internationally, and COLAGE LA in 1987. I have been working with kids with LGBTQ parents (and LGBTQ parents!) for more than 30 years. I am an active, loving, supportive member of the LGBTQ+ community. My master's thesis and doctoral dissertation were both on treating the family as a system when one member comes out as LGBTQIA+. While I'm certainly not versed in ALL cultures, I am incredibly respectful of others' beliefs, customs, and traditions. I see clients of all races, faiths, and cultures.
