About My Clients
I am new to private practice but I have worked in many settings including community mental health, veterans and active duty military, as well as Native youth in a residential setting. I havem worked extensively with individuals who suffer from depression and anxiety as well as those with schiophrenia and psychotic disorders. I don't believe that anyone who reaches out for support should be denied care and I intend to provide support for a wide variety of issues.
My Background and Approach
Although I am trained in and have used many approaches to therapy, in most cases, I believe that short-term solution focused thereapy is a good fit for most of the clients that I see. This approach focuses on the issue that is presented and asks what the client's life would look like once the issued is resolved. In working with families I may draw from multiple disciplines but am primary am a student of Family Systems Therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have worked in many settings and in each, I believe that I hav truly made a difference whether it's parents strugglng with a child's behavior or one that may appear disorganized. With my training in assessing and managing suicidal patients, I have supported patients who were considering ending their lives. I have helped a youth suffering from his first brush with pychosis believe that his life is not over. I have helped couples who present with one partner leaning toward divorce give their relationship a fighting chance by remembering why they loved each other. In each case, my respoinsibility is to uncover and focus on the outcome that the client prefers without judgement or personal bias. I believe that a good therapist is willing ton assess anyone who requests help AND being willing to give an apprpriate referral based on lack of training and not lack of care or concern.
