I am here to help you listen to the signals of your body, mind and heart that are calling for a new way of being.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Santa Rosa, CA
I have seen clients completely recover from acute and complex PTSD. I work with a neurobiologically-informed trauma treatment model that works. I also believe addiction, disordered eating, lack of safety in relationships, depression and anxiety are all signals of a trauma history. I view all of the above as effective strategies to help us survive unbearable or life-and-death situations when we were powerless or helpless.
I love working with life transitions and feel our culture provides little support for initiations into a new phase of life. I love working with: -entering into adulthood: figuring out your purpose, exploring your interests/unique gifts you have to offer the world - navigating the ending of an important relationship -stepping into parenthood or a caretaker role -exploring sexual identity, coming out as queer, trans, non-binary -entering into elderhood -hospice/end-of-life counseling
In my experience, organized religion, while supporting a beautiful intention, often intersects with systems of power, money, privilege, and oppression. It can get confusing/bewildering at times. I’m here to help you clarify, untangle, and get the support you need to thrive in body, mind and spirit. I have a particular interest in spiritual abuse and religious trauma and undoing shame.
The Gestalt approach works in the here-and-now instead of “talking about” issues. My goal is to help you increase contact with your experience, so that your natural process of organismic self-regulation (restoring balance) can occur. Gestalt trusts that whatever is most out of balance will occupy your attention the most. (If there’s an imbalance of water in your system, you’ll really have to pee. My job is to keep you from peeing your pants, emotionally speaking, by increasing awareness)
I love working with couples to resolve conflict, breaches in trust, communication issues and sexual issues. I use a variety of approaches, but love to incorporate present-moment experiential work into the therapy, and often find that this element brings breakthroughs where talk therapy often fails.
I offer outdoor therapy, half-day, and all-day ecotherapy sessions, drawing on the natural world as a healing resource and restoring a sense of deep belonging and vitality in my clients. Overnight trips available upon request. I also work with ecoanxiety and ecogrief regarding climate change and other [settler-colonialist] human-inflicted, accelerated damage to the ecosystem.
I love working with autistic people and have a special love of working with 2e and 3e teens and adults.
