About My Clients
My practice is a space for transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people and their loved ones to navigate gender affirmation journeys and/or to receive support, empathy, and guidance. Since we LGBTQIA+ people have a whole array of other things going on besides our sexual orientations and our genders, my scope extends beyond these issues. My specialties include trauma, mood issues, body image, family-of-origin issues, spirituality/soul, communication and relationships.
My Background and Approach
My approach to coaching draws from multiple modalities, which I use with fluidity and responsiveness to clients’ needs. First and foremost, I use a relational approach, which means that I value my relationship to each person as the key to inviting growth and change. My perspective as an anti-racist trans-affirming feminist cultivates understanding of individuals’ problems through a lens of social justice. I earned a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2014, worked as a Transgender Health Patient Advocate at Fenway Health, and have focused my clinical work on youth and on LGBTQ+ populations. I worked as a professional counselor licensed in Texas and Washington through my own practice, Renaître Counseling, up until 2023.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I teach skills for dealing with difficult emotions and negative thoughts - but truth be told I believe these skills to be most effective when paired with deeper exploration of the meanings of these problems and to the messages embedded in feeling states. Many unhealthy patterns of relating to others and self are rooted in childhood experiences, family-of-origin issues, minority stress, and trauma. Therefore I call upon wisdom co-created during sessions to guide clients toward integrating insights at their own pace.
