About My Clients
Deciding to begin therapy can feel empowering and that you are starting the process of creating the difference you are seeking in your life. Some clients begin therapy with a clear idea of the changes they want to make while others know they want a difference in their life but are less clear on exactly what that needs to be. I work collaboratively with clients and prefer to take an active role in the therapy process engaging clients with a variety of modalities and tasks.
My Background and Approach
As a clinician my practice is rooted in systemic therapy which is based on looking at people and the context of their environment/circumstances and how this impacts behavior. As a systems therapist I practice from a narrative and person centered approach. I believe we all story our lives against the backdrop of our personal discourse, family discourse, and societal discourse. Some of the stories we identify with have been beneficial yet others have been less helpful or even hinder us to reach the goals and contentment we seek. I work from a strengths-based approach to work collaboratively with clients to create change and to coauthor their stories and strive for the change they are seeking. Some of the things that help me relate to clients as a therapist are having had a broad range of career and life experiences to draw on, being compassionate and caring, and fundamentally believing in the good of all people.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In my work I get the privilege of working with a wide array of clients, presenting concerns, age groups, and demographics. As a therapist I feel this keeps me engaged in a full range of clinic work and “the human experience.” Being a first generation US citizen I bring a multicultural lived experience with me that I feel helps me understand the diversity of the clients I work with. As a therapist I seek to work collaboratively with you in a safe, nonjudgmental setting to explore personal narratives and alternative outcomes. Almost all of my clients are adults 18+ and I work with clients across the lifecycle. Some clients I see for a few sessions and others I have been working with for several years. In my practice I see about 60% individual clients and 40% relational clients being made up of romantic partnerships/couples or families.
