Parenting is rough! As the mom of 2 teens and with years of experience working with children through teens, I get it! You want your children to grow up to be healthy, happy, and successful, but sometimes...you wonder if they will. Maybe you feel overwhelmed and not sure how to help them. Maybe you feel irritated and snap at them. Or maybe you and your partner (or ex) just can't get on the same page. We can work on healthy parenting and communication and get back to the happy family you love!
Being a woman has its own unique problems. Whether you're struggling in the workplace, in your relationships, or in your home, I can help. I've worked successfully with women struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, procrastination, daughters of parents with mental illness or abusive relationships, and more. We can delve into relationship issues, boundaries, and communication strategies to help you feel confident and empowered for life.
Working with adults or teens, I like to conceptualize anxiety as an ugly monster who is trying to steal your joy. Anxiety haunts you at night as you try to sleep, during a meeting where you know you're going to mess up, or after a phone call as you analyze every last thing you said. I work to help you stop that negative voice that tells you you're not enough, so you fully embrace who you are right now. When you have a sound, caring therapist, you learn to fight the anxiety monster and win!
No matter what types of therapy I use, I often integrate CBT into my work. It trains you to find healthier ways of looking at problems and putting them into perspective. I've spent years learning about and using CBT with over 100 clients, whether we use actual worksheets or just learn techniques to challenge thoughts and replace difficult emotions with healthier ones. In reality, this skill should be taught to every child in school as a way to find a more balanced way of looking at the world.
Traumatic experiences can throw your whole life off balance. You may feel mostly under control, but a smell, a sound, a face can throw you right back into a state of panic. I've been there. I'm trained in 4 different, highly effective trauma therapies: EMDR, CPT, Prolonged Exposure, and TF-CBT. These evidence-based treatments can attack trauma from different angles based on your needs. We want to reduce the thoughts, feelings, and reactions that you experience so your life feels free again.
Our attachment from childhood affects every relationship we have from then on. How our parents responded to us when we cried told us our value. Attachment work is essential if you don't have the relationships that you dream of, whether it is with your spouse, partner, child, parent, or friend. In a safe and accepting environment, let's look at why you react the way you do, and what affect it has on people you love. Together we will work to heal old wounds and improve your relationship IQ.
