About My Clients
On the outside, you seem fine. You’re balancing everything life throws at you...but there are times when you’re overwhelmed. You feel like whatever you do, it doesn’t seem to be “enough.” You question if you’re doing enough or even if you’re good enough. Everyone else shows their picture perfect lives, and somehow yours doesn’t feel quite right. I specialize in working with women and teens to tame anxiety, trauma, guilt, and shame so they can gain confidence to face life on their terms.
My Background and Approach
Research shows that THE most important factor in therapy is the relationship between you and the therapist. If it isn't a good fit, therapy doesn't work the way it should. I focus on creating a judgment-free safe space where you can completely get real with what's been bothering you. Then, when it is out in the open, we can finally look at all the details together, which helps to contain the problem. Together, it won't seem as big and unmanageable, and we WILL work to figure out how to manage life according to YOUR values. For people who want more background...I have worked with women and children for 20 years in a variety of capacities. I am trained in four evidence-based therapies for trauma (EMDR, CPT, Prolonged Exposure, TF-CBT), use evidence-based therapies for anxiety and depression (CBT, Mindfulness, Emotion Efficacy Therapy, DBT informed treatments, and more), and have worked in grief camp, marriage mentoring, with youthful offenders, and homlessness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every human deserves dignity, love, and acceptance and I work to create that environment in every session. I think that the environment we are in is an inevitable factor in our mental health, and if we do not feel safe, we have a hard time moving out of fear and into growth. I want to work with you to create safety and growth by changing what we can and learning to cope in healthy ways with the things we can't change. I am a supporter of equal rights for everyone. I support the Black Lives Matter movement. I volunteer with youthful offenders ages 14-24 to teach life and job skills in order to provide a second chance at life, and have worked with homeless youth and adults in the past. I believe that no one is beyond redemption, and that guilt and shame rob us of joy. I am a strong Christian and can incorporate Christian counseling into our sessions, but work with people of all backgrounds and religions, believing that everyone is equal and deserving of love.
