Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Los Angeles, CA
If the depression you are experiencing could talk, what would it say? Depression can be the result of many things - trauma, grief, anger focused inwards and even creativity not being expressed. I help my clients process and reduce their depression through talk therapy, connecting to people, changing the way they think and exercise.
If the anxiety you are experiencing had a message, what would it be? Often it is I am not enough, I am not lovable or I am not safe. Anxiety can be an opportunity to change these limiting beliefs. I help my clients reduce their anxiety by embracing it, identifying its message through talk therapy, and changing their thoughts accordingly. I offer several coping strategies and relaxation techniques.
My specialization is LGBTQ Affirmative Therapy. I am the author of Gay Dads: A Celebration of Fatherhood. This critically acclaimed book features 24 gay-dad families throughout the United States and tells the stories of how they formed their families through adoption, foster care, surrogacy and co-parenting with women. Check out my instagram @gaytherapistLA to see the many books, movies and articles I highlight celebrating LGBT queerdom.
I am trained in several modalities and draw on many of them depending on the individual client and what they are working on. I don't believe "one size fits all" and thats why I like to pull from different orientations to best serve my clients.
Strong attachment = good mental health. My goal is to model a healthy relationship that can then be applied in the outside world including exploring and discovering emotions. I want my clients to have a genuine experience of their self and believe they are unique and lovable. Being heard = feeling validated.
Sometimes resolution of an issue is not the end goal but better understanding of your partner is. Through understanding and greater appreciation conflicts fade. I help couples identify the patterns that are preventing happiness and what steps each partner can take to improve their relationship. I specialize in LGBTQ couples.
