“Men are disturbed not by things, but by the views which they take of things." -Epictetus We often don't have control over what happens in life, but we can change the way we percieve it, which affects the way we react to it. Looking at your thoughts can help us identify patterns and worldviews. Consciously switching our thoughts often decreases suffering.
Specializing in helping clients with a trauma history including survivors of abuse, death of a family member, car accidents, etc. From grounding and coping techniques immediately following a traumatic event to late stage trauma resolution therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) I am trained in many trauma modalities to help you get better.
I enjoy helping couples' understand why they chose their partner based on their own childhoods. When this is understood for yourself and your partner it can help you meet your own needs during conflict as well as meet your partners needs. Increasing compassion and connection strengthens a relationship. Looking at your own, as well as your partner's maladaptive coping (ie nagging, yelling, stonewalling) mechanisms during couples' conflict can help to loosen your view on yourself and each other.
Feeling connected to yourself, others and Something or Someone bigger than yourself makes for a balanced life. I help clients get back in touch with what matters to them. Whatever your spiritual tradition it canl be an integral part of your support as you work toward being healthier.
Over half of marriages end in divorce. Whether you are married or just coupled, it is incredible the differences with which we all come to these partnerships. Learning to understand youself and your partner, and see both in new perspectives can really help for connections, and increased tolerance for differences. Increased compassion for yourself and your partner can significantly shift your relationship.
