About My Clients
My clients have typically been told messages about themselves, their world, and their place in it. This may come from family, partners, institutions, or ourselves. Even knowing it isn't "logically" true sometimes isn't enough. These messages compel us to old ways of coping that are self-defeating, limiting, and harmful. No one should be put in such a bind, and my passion is in helping individuals overcome these challenges.
My Background and Approach
I have actively been practicing with clients for 12 years. I have primarily focused on trauma, utilizing a variety of evidence based approaches. I specialize in the use of EMDR in overcoming complex trauma, dissociation, substance use, and other presentations. Of note, I have extensive experience working with spiritual trauma, attachment-related concerns, sexual abuse, and emotional manipulation. I also work to adapt EMDR to neurodivergent individuals, which has become a particular interest of mine prior to my own diagnosis of ADHD. I am also an EMDR Consultant and trainer, offering workshops and consultations to other professionals. In addition to EMDR, I use Schema Therapy to help conceptualize the very nuanced ways we think about ourselves. This also allows a "parts" perspective to be utilized, tailored to each specific client. Finally, I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients live more mindfully, intentionally, and attuned to their freely chosen values
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I grew up in a small, rural West Texas oil town. Despite this not being the most diverse environment, I always found myself sensitive to those who were different or marginalized. I struggled to fit in myself, but I know my privilege spared me from the extent of unfair treatment so many others have experienced. Seeing my friends, communities, and allies discriminated against because of their race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and neurodivergence has given me a passion to address these issues in a platform I know well - the therapy space. I know I cannot fix or address all the systemic problems we face, but what I can offer is space for you to share authentically and safely. I can offer my knowledge and expertise in how to best address the experiences that unwittingly shaped you. I can offer grace for those moments where you aren't at your best. I affirm Black Lives Matter, Abortion is Healthcare, Science is real, and am a SOGI aligned professional.
