CBT is currently one of the most widely used interventions that focuses on challenging cognitive distortions and maladaptive behaviors to improve emotional regulation and increase coping strategies. I have used CBT to successfully treat many different clients throughout my career as a counselor.
EMDR, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, is an incredibly effective trauma treatment with scientific support through empirical evidence. I have witnessed life changing healing through this modality not only with clients but I have experienced it personally. As part of my training, I was required to have another clinician treat me using a real trauma. This process gave me important insight into my client's experience with EMDR.
Person-Centered therapy is something that I use with every interaction that I have with a client. A tenet of this approach is the unconditional positive regard for the client and empathetic understanding from the therapist. This therapy requires the therapist to be genuine, a commitment that I adhere to with all of my clients.
Parenting issues are close to my heart. My undergraduate degree in human development and family studies laid the groundwork for my appreciation of families of all kinds. I have 5 children, ranging from ages 1 to 13 who keep me always in the midst of these type of issues right along with my clients.
I am a military spouse and understand the unique challenges facing members and their families. As a family, we have experienced deployments, injuries, death of close friends, constant moves, new schools, and the deep relationships forged. There is a common language spoken and understood among service members and their families that will benefit the therapeutic relationship.
As a clinician, I have significant experience working with clients facing postpartum depression and other perinatal issues. As a person, I have experienced it myself in one form or another with each of my 5 pregnancies. As a client, you will be met with not only therapeutic interventions but also compassion and true empathy as someone who has also walked that road.
