About My Clients
Are you looking for a therapist who can help you understand your relationships better, grow in your self-awareness, find meaning and fulfillment, and learn to move through difficult times with more ease and mindfulness? To find relief from stress, fear, resentment, anger, sadness, numbness, loneliness, sadness, or other challenges, please reach out for a consultation with me (or any therapist who feels like a good fit). I'm glad you're looking for a therapist; you're already moving toward change
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy is interpersonal, person-centered, and multiculturally-oriented (with a healthy dash of humor!). My goal is to help you learn and grow in a relational and affirming space. I believe our social and intersectional identities are critical points of exploration in therapy. Without understanding ourselves, it can be difficult to make sense of the world around us. I help people make sense of their emotions, identify and understand patterns in relationships and behavior, and learn new ways of approaching self, other, and the world. Often, my clients find that their struggles are connected to a larger and longer legacy of family and generational dynamics, as well as cultural privileges/oppressions that play out in our lives and on the world stage. Understanding ourselves in context is critical to understanding what change strategies will be effective for us. I believe in feminist practices of examining power in all its forms, including within the therapeutic relationship
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Therapy is a wonderfully malleable tool; it can function in many different ways depending on your needs. Sometimes we need to feel and be seen in a safe space. Other times, we need to cope with difficult transitions or life circumsmtances. Perhaps we need to learn to accept, love, and care for ourselves or others. Or, we need confirmation that we are not problematic and find ways to cope with an unfair world. As a counseling psychologist, I was trained in a strengths-based, multicultural and social justice paradigm, which is infused in my approach to therapy. I believe that cultural humility as a therapist requires a deep and enduring exploration of myself so that I can be most present for my clients, and avoid recreating oppressive practices in therapy. I am active in social justice advocacy in my research, therapy, and advocacy work. I am active outdoors (I offer walking therapy), and love food, music, art, books, and travel.
