About My Clients
ADHD and executive functioning struggles have you feeling like you're balancing too many plates and always on the brink of having them crash around you? Depression and anxiety creating a spiral that feels impossible to escape? Trying to grow into your queer identity in an unsupportive environment? These are just a few of the things we might address in therapy together. My goal is to create a genuine and supportive therapeutic space in which you can grow into your best self.
My Background and Approach
I never set out to be a therapist. When I was in social work school, I swore up and down it's something I'd never be. And then I swore I'd never go into private practice because of the gatekeeping that happens in the mental health field. It turns out I was wrong about both of those things as I've now created a group practice of my own. However, I believe that my reticence about being a therapist and hesitance around the ethics of private practice keep my ideals at the forefront and always keeps me honest to prioritizing your needs as my client. My point with that long-winded story is this: I understand that life isn't linear and often takes you places you'd never imagine. I have many roles as your therapist: emotional container, teacher, role play partner, attachment figure, life skills coach, embarrassing cheerleader, and more. Each of these, along with my extensive knowledge of different therapeutic methods, meets you exactly where you are while also challenging you to heal grow.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a licensed clinical social worker first and a therapist second - and I have an intersectional feminist, restorative practice approach. Basically, that means... That I absolutely believe that All Black Lives Matter and continually try to undo my own socialization tied into colonialism, white supremacy and the maintenance of patriarchy. That I intentionally teach my kids about life experience of people who are different from them. It also means that I try to parent my children with respect, nurturing, and patience. That I'm in constant internal conflict about being an entrepreneur who begrudgingly engages with capitalism while simultaneously trying to dismantle it. That I absolutely will be at the Texas Capitol trying to testify when bigoted legislation comes down the pipeline. That I go to therapy. My personal belief is that you have to walk the talk to truly create change, and I make every effort to do so. If that resonates with you, drop me a line and let's get to work :)
