About My Clients
Having been an abuse specialist for many years, I tend to see women who refer themselves and are referred by others. They might now be in an abusive situation, or are survivors of all kinds of abuse in their past. I know what you are going through. I work with all kinds of women's concerns, from depression and anxiety to life transitions, including divorce, and self-esteem, and co-dependency. My ideal client is open and motivated to work with me.
My Background and Approach
My background includes training in psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive-behavioral work. I also use a systems approach, since I believe that every individual is part of a larger system, which needs to be part of our work. Having worked at 2 colleges/universities over the years, I have developed a great interest and expertise in working with young adults, and understand that these individuals have their own set of unique issues facing them. We will work as a team, and explore how unresolved patterns in your past are now hurting you in the present. I look for symptoms of trauma, and empathically work with you to help resolve these painful issues. My long life experience has helped to enhance my skills as a therapist. I also provide you with techniques you can take with you that will help control your unwanted thoughts and feelings. We will work on setting boundaries. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I was raised knowing I was Jewish, but we celebrated Christmas, since my father was delayed from going to med school, because of the anti-Semitic sentiments at that time. Now I am very comfortable with my Jewish identity, and have nothing to hide, while also being proud of my late father, for what he confronted and overcame. I was also raised in a liberal environment, and now have strong liberal values and beliefs, starting with working for a left-leaning presidential candidate in high school, then working on George McGovern's campaign in college, then working for John Kerry when he was a presidential candidate. Now I am a staunch feminist, and have been since the beginning of the movement. I fully support the anti-sexual harassment/sexual assault movement, and deal with these issues in my practice. I hope to see equality for all people in my lifetime, especially for African-Americans and gays, and those with alternative sexual orientations. I believe in therapy.
