About My Clients
I work well with persons who have difficulty connecting with others or feel somehow set apart from those around them. We come to know & understand ourselves in the context of relationships. Without authentic connections, we can be left feeling lost – disconnected from those around us & from ourselves. Being hurt by persons known & trusted can be quite damaging to our sense of self. Some may come to see themselves as defective, unlovable, or even broken. One can end up feeling completely stuck.
My Background and Approach
Our work together can help you gain insight into the ways you've learned to protect yourself from painful thoughts & emotions. Though these protective parts of you kept you safe at some point in time, they may also no longer serve you – paradoxically preventing you from being who you are & living the life you want for yourself. The therapeutic relationship offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery & healing. Working with a therapist who will be with you in your pain can enable you to make contact with the wounded parts of yourself that were too scary to face alone. When your pain is seen & held by another, it becomes possible to be with it in a new way & to reconnect with your own sense of authenticity & aliveness. This renewed connection with yourself will allow you to heal from the wounding experiences of your past & move forward with your life. The process of reclaiming this life as your own may take courage, but in my experience, it's only difficult because it's worth it.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Even in the Bay Area, it can be challenging to find a therapist who understands issues facing the queer community. Discovering that you can’t be completely open with your therapist can be a retraumatizing experience that stirs up feelings of shame & leaves you with a familiar sense of needing to hide aspects of who you are. My practice is a space where queer identities are welcomed & celebrated. I have the utmost respect for each person who has the courage to seek therapy & feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to work with folks who locate themselves across the spectrum of gender & sexuality. Whether you’re just beginning to question the ways you identify, healing from past losses & traumas, experiencing conflict in intimate relationships or simply need support that takes into account the totality of your life experiences, the services I offer can cultivate a deepened understanding of yourself & lead to long-lasting improvements in your overall quality of life.
