My approach to working with clients experiencing depression is centered on compassion, understanding, & evidence-based practices aimed at reducing symptoms and enhancing overall well-being. I employ an integrative approach that combines different therapeutic modalities tailored to each client's unique needs and circumstances. For example, utilizing psychodynamic theory by exploring unconscious thoughts, feelings, & past experiences can be valuable in understanding the root causes of depression.
CBT is highly effective in treating anxiety by identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors. I also encourage clients to develop healthier coping mechanisms which involve incorporating lifestyle modifications, self-care, mindfulness practices and relaxation techniques which can help clients become more aware of their thoughts and bodily sensations, allowing them to manage stress and anxiety in the present moment.
A thorough assessment of the client's symptoms, history, strengths, challenges, and functioning is crucial. Providing psychoeducation about ADHD helps clients gain a deeper understanding of their condition. CBT techniques tailored to ADHD helps clients manage impulsive behaviors, improve time management, develop organizational/coping skills, & enhance problem-solving abilities. Coordinating with medical professionals for medication management is essential if a client wants to explore that route.
Psychodynamic theory is vital in understanding the influence of early experiences, exploring unconscious conflicts, and recognizing the significance of interpersonal relationships in shaping a client's psychological functioning. In my experience, this orientation has been crucial in exploring clients’ unconscious thoughts, feelings, and experiences, which more than likely may be influencing their current behaviors and relationships.
My experience in utilizing feminist theory involves a deep commitment to creating an empowering, inclusive, and affirming therapeutic space where clients can explore and address the impact of societal dynamics on their lives. I am dedicated to helping clients navigate these complexities, find their voices, and work towards personal and collective empowerment.
CBT is a highly effective and widely recognized psychotherapeutic approach that emphasizes the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through exercises and psychoeducation, I assist clients in acquiring coping skills, stress management techniques, relaxation exercises, and problem-solving abilities. These skills empower clients to effectively manage their emotions and respond to challenging situations in a constructive manner.
