About My Clients
Do you sometimes wish you could flip a switch and change how you feel? Or at least understand it better? Living with the effects of abuse trauma or a mental health condition or neurodivergence like depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, Autism or Borderline Personality Disorder can be confusing. I help people to make sense of things, to get a better sense of who they are and where they want to go and manage difficulties in the way.
My Background and Approach
Your story matters. And you are more than a story. People usually seek therapy when trying to make sense of a piece of their story or trying to create a new chapter. My approach to therapy seeks to hear your story as we both learn more about who you are and what matters to you. I love to help people improve their relationships with themselves and other. I have specialization in recovery from mental health challenges such as Depression, self-harm, Borderline Personality, Bipolar Disorder and voice hearing/psychosis. I also specialize in neurodiversity, specifically autism in women and teens. This said, my focus is not on diagnosis, it is on the person (or people) in my office, who are far more than a diagnosis and far more complex than any kind of therapy protocol! I have training in ACT, DBT, Radically Open DBT, EMDR, CBT, and interventions for psychosis. I use these as tools where it makes sense for a given person within a neurodiversity-affirming a recovery model.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Mental health recovery and healing from trauma is possible. I know this from personal experience. Living with a mental health condition can be confusing and the stigma associated with it can lead us to feel discredited or unheard. A person with a mental health condition is the same person behind their eyes as they were before they got that diagnosis. I love to help people remember that, and to gain back their voice in their life and relationships. I have met a number of people who feel like trash and there have been times in my life that I have felt that way. I want you to know that just because you feel like trash that doesn't mean that you are trash. You are worth your recovery and I would love to get to be a part of that. Causes I feel strongly about include mental health recovery, abuse prevention, suicide prevention, recovery from self-harm and eating disorders and Autism acceptance. I am also an advocate for kindness, families and of everyone's story being heard.
